There’s nothing better than waking up from your perfect night’s sleep feeling refreshed and well rested! Choosing the right doona is an important part of the recipe for your perfect night’s sleep – who else has woken up kicking off a doona that’s too hot or waking up too cold, reaching for another blanket?
We’ve designed our quilt buying guide to give you as much information as possible so you can select the right quilt for you and your family. The right quilt will depend on your unique personal needs, your home environment, climate you live in and whether you share your bed! Let’s take a look at these factors..
CONSIDERATIONS WHEN SELECTING YOUR QUILT
KIDS
Children typically sleep hotter than adults and we commonly recommend the ‘Summer’ or ‘All Seasons’ quilt.
CLIMATE WITHIN YOUR HOME
Consider how cool and warm your home gets throughout the year. Overnight temperature guides are designed with the interior temperature of your home in mind. Things to consider;
- Do you sleep with climate control? If so what temperature will it be – use this as a guide to selecting your quilt
- Do you have great insulation in your home? Most modern homes are designed to stay warmer overnight, even if you don’t use climate control. Use a thermostat to measure the temperature and base your quilt selection off this.
- Mattress composition. Some mattresses will affect the temperature of your bed. For example, latex mattresses are commonly associated with a ‘warmer’ sleep. We recommend our pure wool under blankets with your mattress as they are wonderful at regulating your body temperature thanks to wool’s amazing natural temperature regulation properties.
SLEEPWEAR
Consider your sleeping attire when selecting a quilt. For example, if you wear full length pyjamas, you may consider selecting a slightly cooler blanket.
PARTNERS
Sharing with a significant other and can’t agree on an ideal weight? Our duo quilts can be custom made to suit both of your preferences and were made for this very reason. Call us in store to discuss our custom options. No more fighting over the blankets!
QUILT SIZE
If you are after a long ‘drape’ on your quilt or that oversized look, go the next size up from your mattress size. For example, if you have a queen bed, go with a king size quilt for that luxurious look. This is also a great option if you sleep with a partner and they are constantly stealing your share of the blanket, no more cold spots!
